Quarter 3, Week 12: The Beloved Beloved

It doesn’t take a detective to see how far we as a blog cohort have stretched the precedent of blog posts. However, the weekly survey this Monday helped me realize exactly how surreal this quarter’s posts have been. So, I will be discussing the power all of your language has had on me.

I think all of us were all equally initially stumped by the behemoth topic of power. In each of our own ways, we expressed this confusion resulting in the incredible diversity of all our first posts. From video-game toxicity to writing about literally nothing, we could all see each other’s struggle to come to terms with the quarterly umbrella. However, it was this same diversity that brought us together. We came together to explore broader and broader topics without the fear of being ostracized. Never in my life would I have thought I could write a semi-formal piece in my English class about Among Us. With this “shifting meta,” I could see all of our posts getting not only bolder and bolder, but more importantly more and more personal. I am eternally grateful for this environment of a quarter since, with the impending doom of POAS, having a space to write about things I genuinely cared about really helped my mental state. Of course, it is not only writing the blogs that was fun, reading all of your blogs was always entertaining as well.

Comments in previous blogs had always felt like a bit of a chore since I felt like I was being forced to read through content and create a generic response to it. That felt completely absent this quarter. Each and every one of you had their own quirks and styles, so I would like to appreciate all of them. First of all, Faith’s short stories were always so incredible. My comments fail to do justice to the magic I felt as I read them. Sophie always found a way to relate our blogs to some form of pop culture; her blogs always felt super fresh and genuine. Raymond’s posts were always super informational, borrowing and retelling interesting information to all the rest of us. Sierra’s blogs about music and poetry were always so cool since both are such interesting topics. I found especially interesting the blog featuring poems from Atticus. Vivan’s blogs were always so lighthearted and felt like I was having a real conversation with you. Anwika’s immaculate analysis of history and past events either introduced me to events I’ve never heard of before or got me to rethink my previous conclusions. Krish’s blogs were always incredibly professional and well produced regardless of his topic. Last but certainly not least, Sean’s blogs were always the coolest in practice, I would accredit the original “anti-meta” movement to him. I especially enjoyed the interactive “press control+a” blog.

Thank you to all of you for making this quarter’s blogs a blast. I hope that we can have the same exhilarating tempo next quarter.

  1. Hi Yi-Kuan
I'm glad you appreciated reading my blogs. Especially this quarter, I tried to focus on writing things that would be interesting to read, since I realize that many people saw this assignment as more of a chore than anything else. The goal was to write something that made people want to read it. With everyone else, the blogs became more interesting and unique from each other. I found that everyone had something to say on the topic and it was really interesting seeing how others would take the topic and make it their own.

  2. Hi Yi-Kuan,

Our blog cohort is truly built different. Constructed peculiarly, you might say. I appreciate the credit for the anti-meta movement; I look forward to seeing your contributions as well as the rest of the cohort's for the final quarter of blogging. Looking back on my earlier blogs, I observed a development in style and topic that I would have never considered in any other writing assignment. I highly suggest you do the same and marvel at the writer you've become. Good job mate.

    Sincerely,

    Sean Wang

  3. Hi Yi-Kuan,
Thanks for your kind words! I agree that this quarter's blogs have definitely been different than usual, but I must say that I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the unpredictability of your blogs and the interesting topics you elaborated on, including Among Us, anime, being late, and more! I'm excited to see what you and the rest of the cohort will bring to the table next quarter.

  4. Merci Beaucoup! And I agree. In the beginning of the quarter, I was knee deep in writing short stories and now I find myself transitioning into poetry, and it's so unfortunate that I can’t share that. However, such an opportunity is what I was definitely looking for—sharing my writing with people who will read it. This is also the reason why I love English Class because it forces me to improve my language and build better ideas. After a semester of scraping myself against the word counter of google docs to barely make it past 250 words, I realized that this was not the purpose of blogging in the first place and I had little to no obligation to continue. The semester topics are a source of inspiration and every word we use holds the power of the thousands of years and billions of people who used it before.

I am really honored to be a part of this blog cohort, and I will miss reading everyone's posts and comments each week. This group is truly my beloved.

    Sincerely,

  6. Hey Yi-Kuan, I swear I didn't steal your idea; as soon as I published my blog, it redirected me to the home page, and when I saw your blog I burst out laughing. Was it just a coincidence that I had just finished writing about this cohort and something happened again, or are we all psychic? That's just the beauty of this group I guess. I was so touched to see that you expressed your appreciation for every one of our fellow bloggers; I felt so honored, and I'm glad you think my topics are cool. I have a feeling next quarter will be a good one. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Hi Yi-Kuan,

My favorite two blog posts this quarter was Seans "Gambling with my Grade" and his "Press Control+A." Those two were the most creative blogs I have ever seen, and I bet there will be someone next year who will do the same. I would also say that exerting our pain of completing POAS helped my mental state, as I had a whole lot of work this quarter and I'm happy I don't have to do POAS anymore. Maybe I will never have to do a 7-page essay in my life - the relief I had when submitting POAS is just indescribable.

    Sincerely,
    Vivan Waghela

  8. Hey Yi-Kuan,
This is such a cute blog post. As I'm reading all of your posts, I am so sad I missed the environment created by these blogs. All of your writing is so communicative and touching and I just feel so safe in this atmosphere all of you have created. It is really nice to see how much people can achieve as a group when they come together and just have fun with it. I could have never imagined a blogging group to be so interactive and enjoyable, so thank you so much for your out of the box ideas this quarter:)
